Drawing Forth
(Thankful Lines for a Friend's Designs)

(for artme)

My playful horse inspires me, true,
But never quite as much as you.
An artful friend with gifted skill,
You raised me from the run-of-mill.

Your rearing horse, in ink and paint,
With untamed mane and no restraint,
Appeared within my box today.
“Hey, you’ve got mail!’ I heard it say.

I fairly nickered as I saw
The little equine you did draw.
And inspiration filled my heart
To view your thoughtful work of art.

This sweet surprise did heal my mind,
Which I had left three steps behind.
Thus reunited with my soul,
My thoughts stood still and became whole.

For childlike visions are the best.
Our equine dreams are fully blessed.
And as the horse lifts high his hooves,
Your act of love my spirit moves.

Tuesday

Royalty - Spoilty

(For HEADS or TAILS - #41 – “royal” and Two for Tuesdays “All I Remember is How I Forgot”)

When loving a horse and counting the cost, All I remember is how I forgot. (L.A.N.)

Royalty – Spoilty

My boy looks beautiful in blue,
Though he’s a royal pain; it’s true.
He’ll jump the moon
To any tune,
But every month he’ll lose a shoe.

My boy is handsomest in teal,
This color lights his orbs of steel.
In indigo
He’s apropo,
But turquoise does his light reveal.

In cobalt, cornflower or ice,
My boy is dashing, ultra-nice.
His shining mane
Almost profane,
Is every filly’s paradise.

Blue halters, sheets and saddle pad
Make him a stylishly dressed lad.
He fairly gleams
With color schemes,
As gallant as Sir Galahad.

My boy looks beautiful in blue,
Though he’s a royal pain; it’s true.
He stole my scene
And all my green,
To leave my statements all past due.

Come to Me

(This posting is also an entry for Totally Optional Prompts' "transformation" topic this week.)

Just today, my young sporthorse colt worked under saddle in the big arena for the first time.

As he moves, step by step, through his training, I cannot help but reminisce about the journey that brought us together to this point.

His mother is a gorgeous chestnut Warmblood mare, my very first horse. His father is a fiery red Arabian stallion. This colt is a keeper.

Come to Me

Leave the herd, and come to me,
And we will roam the wilds with glee.
Gallop from the greenest field,
And so become my strongest shield.

We have waited, right or wrong,
To discover joys lifelong.
The trail awaits us, end unknown,
With secret beauty yet unshown.

We’ll mend the miles and race the breeze,
A-galloping beneath the trees.
So carry me beyond mundane,
As I hold tightly to your mane.

How to Trim a Horse's Bridle Path

How to Trim a Horse's Bridle Path -
Clipping Without Slipping

What is a bridle path?

To betrothed lovers, a bridal path is the aisle to the wedding altar. However, to horse lovers, a bridle path is something altogether different.

In fact, a bridle path may be either an outdoor trail that has been groomed for equestrian use or a groomed area of the horse's mane to accommodate tack. This second application is what is meant by a horse's bridle path.

How can you trim a horse's bridle path simply and neatly?

For most equestrian disciplines, a horse's mane is trimmed at the poll, just behind his ears. This creates a clear area, or path, where a bridle or halter may sit neatly upon his head.

Here's the best way, particularly with a young horse, who may be unaccustomed to this process.
B = Begin early.
E = Expect to take your time.
S = Start with scissors.
T = Trim only a small area of the horse's mane, at least at first.

Eventually, you'll be able to pick up the clippers and zip through that perfect bridle path in a jiffy!
