My friend Karen Murdock, Lukas' owner, has written a book about her experiences with this remarkable retired racehorse. (Just look at him in his Easter bunny ears. This horse was previously discarded as unmanageable and untrainable. Now he's a liberty trick horse.)
Here's Lukas' story:
Who is the world's smartest horse? Playing with Lukas, by Karen Murdock, offers an inside look at a remarkable partnership between a human and a horse. Karen Murdock saw the potential in a troubled retired racehorse rescued him.
Thank you, Linda - Lukas is quite the character and is really enjoying himself!
ReplyDeleteI have seen him on TV!!!!!!! OMG so funny I read this! I watched a short segment on him and ran outside cause my 2 yr old is CONSTANTLY getting into and out of everything, picking up and running off with stuff, so I decided I was gonna teach him some tricks once I saw just how smart a horse really can be! I have him (almost) bringing him his halter to me just after a few times showing me! I have an extremely smart horse one of those you have to stay 5 steps ahead of...very curious, my other two just dont care...LOL...but she really inspired me to work with my young one...OMG how crazy you posted this cause I just saw about her a few months ago!!!! It was so amazing what she has done, and I LOVED that she didnt give up on him, such a happy horse, and I was just so impressed with her and her love for him!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! Linda was so kind to include us here. Thank you for the wonderful comment - I am very glad you're enjoying Lukas and having such a good time with your 2year old. Lukas is on Facebook if you'd like to follow him: http://www.facebook.com/playwithlukas. I post his training and of course his costumes there - all for fun. Take care, Karen
ReplyDeleteI'm following! I'm Rachel Blanton...yes Jack (my 2 yr old) is giving us such joy, and we have raised him since he was 6 months old. Once I saw just how smart he was I'd wish I'd started sooner teaching him things! I have some pics on there I think, of him bringing me his halter, hmmm if not I'll post them, it'll be on my facebook page raising Jack-a-bo, if you care to take a look some time...he's just an awesome little horse. Cant wait to check out your facebook page!
