Bellying Up to the Bale –

A Rhyming Form Amid the Storm

For breakfast in the field, we find

Dear friends with manes and tails entwined.

The sun has faded like a coin,

As winter rushes to purloin.

Tradition calls, with instinct merged,

As fillies here have quite converged.

The biggest bale of hay in store –

“If only we could have some more.”

As buddies in the local pub,

They gather here to rub and scrub,

To sing their song, as storms prevail

And belly right up to the bale.

Here, although the cold has devoured the flowers,

The fillies are blooming in winter's dark hours.
